Türkiye's history

Turkey's history has a very rich and deep-rooted past. Anatolian lands have been home to many civilizations throughout history. Ancient civilizations such as the Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians and Lydians existed here. Later, the Persians, Macedonians and the Roman Empire conquered Anatolia and left their influence here. Istanbul, the center of the Byzantine Empire, was conquered by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1453 and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire ruled on three continents for 600 years and had a huge cultural, social and economic impact. With the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in the 20th century, the Republic of Turkey was founded in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Modern Turkey, with its secular and democratic state structure, strives to create a modern society while preserving its historical heritage. Turkey's history is a mosaic that reflects not only the traces of the past but also the dynamics of the present.
